The National Microfinance Conference 2015 was successfully held on 29th – 30th January 2015 at Hotel Africana, Kampala. In 2012, AMFIU and the Government of Uganda, through the Microfinance department of the Ministry of finance, Planning and Economic Development agreed to jointly host the annual conference every two years, in effect taking it beyond targeting AMFIU members to focusing on all the sector shareholders. This has given the conference a national character and provides an opportunity for all stakeholders to participate in deliberating the national focus. The themes and sub-themes over the last 4 years demonstrate a big commitment, share important topics and events that shape the microfinance industry in Uganda and beyond.

The Association of microfinance institutions of Uganda in collaboration with citibank is receiving applications for clients or members of SACCOs and microfinance institutions to compete for this year’s best Microentrepreneur Awards. Over 70 million Uganda shillings will be awarded to a number of successful Microentrepreneurs to be selected through a competitive process of a panel of High Profile people.

AMFIU has organized a microfinance Industry Information Exchange meeting to focus on the recently passed regulation principles for Tier 4 institutions and the opportunities and challenges of transformation. This meeting will take place on 30th August 2013 at Fairway Hotel. During the last AMFIU conference, the Minister of Finance Hon. Maria Kiwanuka announced during that cabinet had passed the regulation principles for Tier 4 institutions. What does this mean to the microfinance sector? Secondly since the MDI act 2003 was enacted, there are few institutions that have transformed. What are the opportunities and challenges of transformation? As microfinance stakeholders, these are pertinent issues that need to be discussed broadly.
