AMFIU is thrilled to announce a significant upgrade to the Performance Monitoring Tool (PMT), a vital resource for microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Uganda. Originally developed in 2003 through collaboration with industry stakeholders, and subsequently enhanced in 2009, the PMT has been an invaluable tool for self-monitoring, reporting, and receiving feedback on financial performance and social impact.
This latest transformation of the PMT wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of institutions like USAID/ Feed the Future Uganda Institutional and Systems Strengthening Activity and aBi Finance, whose contributions have been instrumental in advancing the microfinance sector in Uganda.
In line with our commitment to continuous improvement, last year saw a major overhaul of the PMT, transitioning it to a cloud-based system and introducing compatibility with other software platforms via an API-based approach. This upgrade not only enhances efficiency but also facilitates the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) indicators, aligning with global best practices and the evolving needs of the microfinance sector.
A recent audit conducted by AMFIU identified a crucial limitation in the previous PMT software system: the inability to integrate with other platforms, hindering comprehensive reporting and analysis across diverse performance metrics, including ESG . Recognizing the importance of addressing this gap, we’re excited to unveil the enhanced PMT, empowering financial institutions to leverage technology for more robust performance monitoring and reporting.
During the launch event, which was attended by delegates including representatives from the Bank of Uganda (BOU), Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA),USAID/ Feed the Future Uganda Institutional and Systems Strengthening Activity , Ministry of Finance, and member institutions, the Minister of State for Microfinance applauded this initiative. He highlighted its potential to drive both social and environmental impact in the lives of Ugandans and urged financial service providers to embrace customer-centric approaches that prioritize the economic empowerment of their clientele.
The upgraded PMT is now available for free use and can be accessed through our website at https://pmt.amfiu.org.ug. We invite all microfinance institutions to take advantage of this powerful tool to advance their mission of fostering inclusive financial access and sustainable development in Uganda, and extend our sincere gratitude to all institutions and individuals who have supported this transformative endeavor.
