In today’s digital landscape, microfinance institutions (MFIs) and SACCOs have become essential in delivering financial services to underserved communities. However, as these institutions increasingly embrace technology, they also face heightened vulnerabilities to cyber threats. Protecting sensitive data and maintaining client trust are critical for the success and sustainability of these institutions.
To address these challenges, AMFIU, with support from DSIK, embarked on enhancing the cybersecurity capacity of member institutions. This initiative equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to defend against cyber-attacks and effectively mitigate associated risks. AMFIU has been actively promoting digital financial services among its members, and cybersecurity has emerged as a key concern.
AMFIU organized cybersecurity awareness workshops in Kampala aimed at helping institutions combat these threats. During the workshops, participants were also educated on their legal responsibilities regarding measures to prevent and detect money laundering and the financing of terrorism. The training attracted 30 participants, and these included technical IT staff and managers.
