AMFIU Business Consult (ABC), the business arm of the AMFIU, recently successfully concluded the consultancy aimed at enhancing financial literacy and leadership capacity among Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOs) and Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs) in Northern and Central Uganda.
The contract was offered by Stanbic Bank and covered a wide range of topics including leadership and governance, financial literacy, fraud prevention, and community mobilization. The capacity building was implemented among 400 SACCOs and VSLAs across 11 districts that included Kampala, Wakiso, Mityana, Kiboga, Luwero, Arua, Amuru, Lira, Apac, Gulu, and Kitgum.
SACCOs and VSLAs play a crucial role in the lives of many Ugandans, particularly in rural areas. They offer a safe space to save, access loans, and invest in things that matter—like school fees, small businesses, and home improvements. But as these organisations grow, so do their challenges. Managing finances, keeping records, and running them effectively can get challenging. That’s where the Stanbic assignment came in.
In addition to training the leaders of SACCO and VSLA leaders directly, Trainers/consultants who work closely with these groups every day were also empowered with similar skills. The goal was to empower them with the skills and tools they need, so they can pass on the knowledge and help even more people.
Participants were also introduced to practical, technology-based solutions to make managing finances easier and more efficient through a Training of Trainers (TOT) approach.
This project wouldn’t have been possible without the commitment of our trainers, participants, and partners. Special thanks to Stanbic Bank that entrusted ABC to offer the capacity building of the participating SACCOs and VSLAs.
