About the Event

The biggest event of the year

Building on the success of the 2022 and 2024 conferences that brought together over 800 stakeholders, the 3rd Annual Microfinance and Savings Groups Conference will convene policy makers, practitioners, and development partners to discuss how the sector can thrive in a rapidly changing national and global environment.
The 2025 conference will align with Uganda’s National Development Plan (NDP III), Parish Development Model, Climate Change Policy, and Vision 2040, focusing on sustainable growth and inclusive financial systems.

Background

Microfinance and savings groups have been vital in deepening financial inclusion and reducing poverty—especially among low-income, rural, and marginalized Ugandans.
According to Finscope Uganda 2023, 77% of adults now have access to financial services (up from 58% in 2018), with mobile money leading at 70%. Yet challenges persist, particularly for youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
With growing threats from climate change, economic inequality, and digital disruption, the sector must evolve to integrate environmental sustainability, resilience, and social justice into financial inclusion efforts.

Purpose

The conference aims to unite stakeholders across Uganda’s financial ecosystem to re-strategize the future of microfinance and savings groups, driving inclusive growth, green economic transformation, and equitable opportunities for all.

Objectives

  • Advance Sustainable Financial Inclusion: Promote innovative and climate-resilient financial models aligned with national green growth goals.

  • Foster Sector Innovation and Collaboration: Strengthen partnerships, leverage fintech, and enhance data-driven decision-making.

  • Harmonize Policy and Consumer Protection: Encourage alignment of regulatory frameworks and enhance fairness and transparency in the sector.
